A new multi-use games area (MUGA) is about to become reality for local young people in the Burbage area, Hinckley, thanks to a £10,000 donation from a leading housing association group, support from Burbage Parish Council, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and the local police.
The Orbit Group awarded the grant from their Community Investment Fund for the MUGA, situated at Woodlands Avenue Recreation Ground in Burbage. It will benefit the whole community by providing sports and play facilities for families, children and young adults. The area can also be used for junior team events and practice.
The games area, which is ideal for football, basketball, hockey, roller hockey and cricket, is part of an ambitious plan to redevelop the recreational space at Woodlands Avenue in Burbage. In 2008 the Meadows Community Group drew together, from grants and fund-raising some £59,000 to provide play facilities for younger children on the site.
Sue Isaac, Community Housing Officer from the housing association Orbit Heart of England, said: "The new MUGA will complement and enhance the improvements that local people have already made to their community.
"Orbit owns and manages 70 properties in this neighbourhood and the opening of the new MUGA will provide much-needed leisure facilities that have been lacking in the past. We hope that it will create a real sense of community as well as encouraging young people to come together to channel their energy into positive exercise and activity."
